Rescue operation abandoned

The victim’s friends are in police custody

The operation to recover the body of a teenage boy who drowned in Lahore canal on August 6 was abandoned on Monday after seeking permission of the victim’s family. The victim was identified as Syed Meesam. According to details, Punjab Emergency Service (PES) Rescue 1122 received an emergency call about a youth drowning in the canal on the evening of August 6. The rescuers launched an operation for the recovery of the body which continued for four days. As many as 25 rescuers participated in the ordeal covering an area up to 400 metres in the water. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said Meesam’s friends informed the family about the drowning about six hours after the incident, that made the matter suspicious. The victim’s friends are in police custody.
