KARACHI:

The National Forum of Environment and Health (NFEH) and Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have welcomed Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan's initiative to launch a tree plantation campaign across the country, utilising the Tiger Force under the auspices of the federal government.

In a statement issued on Sunday, NFEH president Naeem Qureshi, also the convener of FPPCI's standing committee on the environment, lauded the PM's decision of planting 3.5 million trees in a day to set a new world record.

"FPCCI and NFEH will fully back [the move], in whatever manner they can," he said. "Availing the services of the Tiger Force for a nationwide tree plantation campaign is the best utilisation of the volunteers."

Qureshi expressed hope that the drive would help reverse the effects of environmental degradation in the country.

He added that the campaign would also be beneficial for the Clean and Green Pakistan drive as well as the federal government's 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Programme.

He further said that the FPCCI's standing committee on the environment had been acting as a facilitator to assemble all relevant government agencies, NGOs, industries and the corporate sector and combine their resources for plantation drives.
