K-Electric (KE) has written a letter to Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani highlighting issues caused by the monsoon rains, such as water-logging and fallen trees, that had affected the power utility's services to citizens.

According to the letter, the aforementioned problems caused extended power outages and damaged infrastructure. As a result, KE requested administrative support from the authorities to address these challenges ahead of the rainfall predicted to hit the city from today (Thursday).

KE claimed that the rainwater accumulated due to blocked drains had made it difficult to restore power in 222 locations in the city, going on to request the commissioner and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to expedite the desilting of the nullahs.

Adding that falling trees had also snapped power lines and damaged pole-mounted transformers, it further asked the authorities to prune oversized trees at 229 points in the metropolis.

Moving on to the matter of internet and TV cables on electricity poles, the power utility complained that network operators had not begun work for their removal as committed and urged Shallwani to intervene for public safety.
