Chauntra massacre: police arrest six suspects
The district police on Monday claimed to have arrested at least six suspects, including the sons and nephews of the key protagonist, for the murder of nine women and children over enmity.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the remaining 19 of the 25 suspects nominated in the first information report (FIR).
The suspects arrested by the police include Danish and Akram, sons of Rab Nawaz, the leader of the rival group. His brother Ashraf and nephew Aqib along with 10 others were also apprehended.
While another 10 unidentified suspects have also been nominated in the FIR but yet to be caught.
The main suspect, Danish, confessed of killing the family of his rival to avenge the murder of his mother.
Some ten police teams under Operations SSP Tariq Wilayat raided different areas of Rawalpindi on Monday, including Chauntra, Miyal village, and Attock. They managed to apprehend the suspects.
A Rawalpindi police spokesperson confirmed that Danish had admitted to killing nine women and children to avenge the alleged murder of his mother by the opponents.
In this regard, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahmed Younus said that six suspects had been booked while they were conducting raids to arrest Nawaz and others.
He vowed to bring all suspects to justice who had committed the inhumane crime.
The police have registered a case against 25 suspects under sections of terrorism.
