LAHORE:

Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Asghar Zaidi has ordered an inquiry into harassment allegations against a teacher of Physics Department.

The issue was highlighted by GCU students on social media. Initially, the university administration was hesitant to take action over the matter but due to the issue being highlighted on social media platforms, it was reportedly compelled to take action.

According to details available with The Express Tribune, the varsity, which was considered one of the top educational institutions of the region, once again entered the spotlight due to the allegation of sexual harassment.

Incidents of sexual harassment by faculty members had previously been alleged at the GCU as well. However, in the latest scandal, the GCU administration went ahead with the inquiry after mounting pressure by citizens on social media.

The GCU VC ordered an inquiry into the allegation after it was reported that a faculty member of the university made inappropriate calls and messages to a female student. Sources added that the incident took place at the Physics Department and due to the issue of ‘honour’, the female victim chose to not disclose the matter.
