UoP faculty to protest against pay cuts

The Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) has announced staging a protest today (Monday) against the cut in their salaries and pensions by the university administration.

The PUTA in a statement on Sunday said all employees of the university would take part in the protest against the unjust decision by the University of Peshawar (UoP) administration.

The statement read that the varsity is faced with severe financial crisis due to its administration’s failure to secure funds announced by the provincial government.

The UoP spokesperson Ali Imran Bangash told The Express Tribune that the university administration has informed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) governor and chief minister about the financial crisis of the university. Bangash said a meeting of the UoP and government officials will be held today (Monday) and hopefully the provincial government would release the pending amount of Rs150 million it had promised.

The UoP on Saturday said it has decided to cut salaries and pensions of its employees by 40% as the educational institution is faced with an unprecedented financial crisis.

It said that salaries and pensions of its employees who are serving in Basic Pay Scale grade 17 to 22.
