ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed has suggested that work on an extended track of the Metro Bus Service, from Peshawar Mor to Islamabad International Airport (IIA), next month.

The bus service is being extended to IIA to allow for an economical commute to people who currently have to fork out over Rs2,000 for taxis, just to reach the airport.

The Metro Bus extension to the IIA will be completed by mid-August, he said during the Question Hour in the National Assembly.

Saeed said that 95 % of the physical work on the Peshawar Mor-IIA extension project is complete. Currently, he said, they are in the process of importing equipment, repairing and painting stations, and installing windows, all of which is expected to be completed by the middle of August, Saeed said.

He added that the total revised cost of the project is Rs13.52 billion, making 65 per cent progress in financial terms.

Explaining the delays in the project, the communications minister said that equipment could not be imported from China and Spain due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
