DHOs to issue drug licences

The authority to issue drug licences to wholesale dealers and stores has been transferred from the Karachi health director to district health officers (DHOs), revealed Sindh health secretary Dr Kazim Jatoi on Friday. The Sindh Health Department has also informed the DHOs of the transfer of authority and instructed the city health director to provide all records of drug licences to them. However, relevant authorities have expressed concern over this decision. It is pertinent to note that seven years ago, drug licences were issued by town health officers, but after the restoration of the commissioner system in the city, the post of Karachi health director was created and the authority to issue these licences was transferred.
