ISLAMABAD:

The cotton crop plantation in the country in the 2020-21 season decreased 1.3% as compared to sowing in the previous year. Harvest of cotton, which is among the major cash crops of Pakistan and a main source of industrial raw material for the largest export sector in the national economy, had been on the wane due to various issues, said Cotton Commissioner in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research Dr Khalid Abdullah. Talking to APP, he said that cotton crop had been cultivated over 2.457 million hectares against the target of 2.663 million hectares, a shortfall of 1.3% from the target. “Owing to low input cost and less investment in competing crops, besides decreasing prices for cotton in international markets, the farmers preferred to cultivate these crops on their land,” he said.
