RAWALPINDI:

An expatriate family was robbed of valuables worth over Rs10 million at gunpoint during early hours of Sunday.

Tikka Khan, who holds dual Pakistani and British citizenship, told the Rawat police that he had returned to the country, landing at the Islamabad International Airport (IIA) along with his wife, son Hasan Akhtar, and daughter-in-law Maryam, who is also a British national.

His brother, Muhammad Anwar, received them along with his driver Muhammad Waheed.

The family then set off for their native village Jaswala. However, they were intercepted by a black car with four unidentified passengers near the Sagri Stop at around 3am.

Three of the passengers disembarked from the vehicle and approached them. Of these, Tikka said, two were armed. They held their weapons against the victims and asked them to take out their valuables.

The victims started screaming and tried to put up resistance. However, the robbers started firing in the air, frightening the family who then gave up their valuables.

Tikka claimed that the suspects made away with some £3,340 (equivalent to Rs0.7 million), along with Rs22,000 in cash.

Moreover, the robbers also snatched around 120 tolas of gold from the family - worth over Rs10 million - and five expensive cellphones.

The suspects then fled.

The complaint asserted that he can recognise the suspects if they are brought before him.

The Rawat police have registered a case against the incident and started the investigation.
