KARACHI:

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), in collaboration with the Sindh government, has inaugurated its 17th Chest Pain Unit (CPU) in Umerkot, to facilitate patients with chest pain without any charges.

Sindh Information Science and Technology Minister Nawab Muhammad Taimur Talpur, after inaugurating the unit on Sunday, said that the people of Umerkot would not have to go to larger cities in case of cardiac arrest anymore, since the NICVD’s state-of-the-art facility would be available at their doorstep.

“Within the last three years, these CPUs have treated more than 400,000 patients and saved the lives of over 9,129 people suffering heart attacks. These patients were given immediate treatment and then referred to the main NICVD,” said Talpur. He claimed that it showed Sindh was far ahead of other provinces and the Centre when it came to serving the masses.

The NICVD has set up 13 CPUs across Karachi, as well as one each in Ghotki, Tando Bago and Jacobabad.
