A police officer was killed while another was seriously wounded when unidentified miscreants attacked a police vehicle in the Timergara area of Lower Dir on Friday.
Separately, three people were executed by suspected militants in North Waziristan, police said.
Lower Dir police said that a van with a small squad of officers was out on routine patrol when it came under a gun attack from unidentified militants.
The attack killed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Naseer Ahmed on the spot, while Constable Altaf Hussain was seriously injured.
Soon after the attack, a heavy contingent of officers rushed to the spot. They also launched a search operation in the area while beefing up security.
The injured constable was rushed to the Tehsil Mundan hospital for treatment while ASI Ahmed’s body was taken to the local police station for further legal proceedings.
Later, the funeral prayers of the deceased ASI were offered at Timergara Police Lines. ASI Ahmed was later laid to rest in his native village.
