Work on DG Khan package reviewed
Industries and Trade Secretary Captain (retd) Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has said that a comprehensive plan for the economic development of Dera Ghazi Khan has been chalked out to benefit a population of 451,000 people.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review the DG Khan development package.
While addressing the meeting, the secretary said that a comprehensive plan for the economic development of Dera Ghazi Khan has been chalked out for a population of 451,000. He said that under instructions of the chief minister, the Industries, Commerce, Investment and Skills Development Department was determined to uplift the backward and neglected areas of the province to boost economic activities and generate employment opportunities under the Punjab Industrial Policy 2018.
The secretary the package was a proof of firm determination of the government to uplift the economy of poor and backward areas of DG Khan.
He also deliberated upon various aspects of the schemes, including Artisan Village Taunsa Sharif, upgrade of Handicrafts Development Centre Taunsa Sharif, construction of Government Technical Training Institute Taunsa Sharif, Small Industrial Estate DG Khan, loan schemes of Punjab Small Industries Corporation and Mir Chakar Khan Rind University of Technology DG Khan.
“The state-of-the-art Mir Chakkar Khan Rind University of Technology Dera Ghazi Khan is a gift of the government for the people of South Punjab and it will prove to be a milestone for training the youth of DGK in latest technologies.”
The industries secretary further said that technical training would be given to the youth of DG Khan and adjoining areas to equip them with the latest technology to get jobs and curb unemployment in the region.
He emphasised that the PSIC and TEVTA should make all-out efforts by playing a strategic role for timely completion of the schemes on a fast track as per scheduled timelines. The secretary directed the authorities to monitor the progress by visiting the projects on-site and take necessary steps to eradicate impediments.
