Grenade attack kills retired Rangers official

Sindh Rangers have seen a spate of attacks in recent weeks

KARACHI:

Unidentified motorcyclists hurled a grenade at a bakery in Bilawal Shah Noorani Goth near Khyber Hotel on Wednesday, injuring a man who later succumbed to his wounds.

According to Sachal DSP Fatah Muhammad, the deceased, identified as 68-year-old Ashiq Hussain, was a retired Rangers official.

The bomb disposal squad, in its initial report, said that a recent attack on a Rangers van in Liaquatabad had been carried out with a grenade of the same make.

Investigation officials suspected that the same group of culprits was behind both incidents.

An eyewitness said he rushed to the bakery when he heard the explosion and found Hussain lying injured on the floor. He added that they took him to a nearby clinic where the doctor recommended shifting him to a hospital.

Meanwhile, Sachal SHO Safdar Abbasi was removed from his post for high crime rates in the area.

The Rangers have seen a spate of attacks in recent weeks, with investigation units seemingly failing to make much progress in tracing the culprits.
