KARACHI:

The Sindh Workers Welfare Board (SWWB) presented on Tuesday its budget for 2020-21, as well as the revised budget for 2019-20.

Presenting the budget for 2020-21 in a governing body meeting headed by Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani, SWWB secretary Muhammad Bachal Rahuputo said that the revenue target for the coming year was set at Rs26.64 billion, of which Rs10 billion was to be collected from the Sindh Revenue Board, Rs15 billion from the workers profit participation fund and Rs1.64 billion was to be generated by the SWWB itself. He added that a surplus of around Rs18 billion was expected in the new budget.

He further said that establishment expenditure in the new budget was slashed by Rs54.79 million and Rs1.2 million was set aside for spending on the welfare of labourers and workers. Besides, he said, Rs2.52 million was to be spent on the education of workers’ children.

According to Rahuputo, Rs6,000 would be directly transferred to the bank accounts of all registered labourers on account of the annual stipend for their children’s tuition fees, uniforms, shoes and other expenses.

“The SWWB has reserved funds for bearing the educational of all registered labourers’ children, as it was decided in the last governing body meeting, and the support is no longer limited to bearing the expenses for only two children of each labourer,” he said.

Rahuputo maintained that the support for the children’s education would be provided irrespective of whether they were enrolled in a public or private institute. Moreover, Rs700 million has been allocated for death grants, Rs500 million for marriage grants and Rs400 million for scholarships, he said, adding that Rs3.92 billion would be spent on development projects.
