Adjournment motion against NFC award okayed
The provincial assembly on Monday approved for deliberation an adjournment motion against the formation of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) MPA Inayatullah presented the adjournment motion in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly on Monday.
He contended that the NFC award has not been released, hence the province was still deprived of its due rights. He went on to demand a fair share for the province in the NFC award as per its population per the latest census and after the merger of tribal areas in K-P.
K-P Finance Ministry Taimur Saleem Jhagra agreed with Inayatullah’s demands and said that they have raised the matter with the federal government.
Further, Naeema Kishwar of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) presented a call-to-attention notice against the locust swarms which have ravaged the agriculture sector of the province.
She said that crops have been damaged on a province-wide scale due to the locust attack. Kiswhar further said that farmers of the province were already facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), adding that the agricultural sector was neglected in the provincial budget.
Regarding the locust attack, K-P Agriculture Minister Mehboobullah Khan said that the provincial government has released some Rs0.4 billion for this purpose. He added that they also sought Rs0.4 billion from the federal government.
