Punjab governor takes notice of UET financial crisis

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar says Pakistan’s education sector facing difficulties due to Covid-19

LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar took notice of the financial crisis faced by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore.

He chaired an emergency meeting at Governor House on Friday. Punjab Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Fazal Ahmed Khalid, Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamayun, UET Vice Chancellor Mansoor Sarwar, the finance and higher education secretaries, and the principal secretary to the governor were also present on the occasion.

The governor instructed the participants to not make any cuts to salaries of university staff and pay their full dues on time.

He announced the formation of a high-level committee, chaired by the Punjab HEC chairperson and comprising of including the UET vice chancellor, finance secretary and higher education secretary.

Punjab government will also pay liabilities of university owed by the government in installments, he added.
