Three DPOs among 12 officers transferred

Punjab Police has been witnessing reshuffles after every few months

LAHORE:

Punjab Police went through a major reshuffle on Friday, as three DPOs and nine other officers were transferred.

Transfer and positing of many other police officers was also on the cards, sources in the department said.

Shakir Ahmad Dawar was appointed as District Police Officer of Jehlum and Umar Farooq of Toba Tek Singh. DPO Waqar Shoaib was transferred from Toba Tek Singh and posted as Additional Inspector General (AIG) Administration and Security. AIG Admin and Security Anwar Khaitran was asked to report to the Central Police Office (CPO).

After every few months, Punjab Police has been witnessing major reshuffles.

A few days back, Gujranwala CPO Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta was transferred and DIG Rai Babar Saeed was posted in his place.

Ashfaq Ahmad Khan was posted as DIG Operations Lahore after Saeed was transferred from the post. On the same day, DIG Investigations Lahore Inam Waheed was also transferred. Earlier, SSP Operations Muhammad Naveed was also transferred to the Central Police Office and Faisal Shahzad was appointed SSP Operations Lahore.

In April, at least six AIGs, two regional police officers (RPOs), 13 deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and two senior superintendents of police (SSPs) were transferred and posted.

Since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) formed the government in Punjab, five IGPs have been transferred. The Four IGPs that served before the incumbent Shoaib Dastagir are Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan, Amjad Javed Saleemi, Muhammad Tahir and Dr Syed Kaleem Imam.

Every IGP resorted to massive reshuffles after taking charge.

Days after the appointment of Dastagir, eight DPOs and 18 DIGs were transferred. The services of six police officers have been surrendered to the Establishment Division, Islamabad.

Commenting on the frequent transfer orders, an officer said that Police Order of 2002 had suggested a three-year tenure for a posting in the department as the officials needed time to settle down before devising and implementing strategies and policies under their command.
