Nine die in road accidents

LAHORE:

At least nine people died, whereas 726 were injured, in 681 road accidents in Punjab during the past 24 hours. Of them, 380 people were seriously injured and were shifted to hospitals, while 346 suffered minor injuries and were treated at the sites of the accidents. About 67% of the accidents involved motorcycles. The data showed that 21 underage and 304 other drivers, 96 pedestrians and 335 passengers were among the victims of the traffic crashes. The statistics show that 151 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 148 persons, followed by 61 in Faisalabad with 76 victims and 47 in Multan with 52 victims. The details further revealed that 612 males and 123 females were among the dead and injured, including 132 under 18 years of age, 430 aged between 18 and 40 years and 173 above 40 years. The data revealed that 591 motorcycles, 74 rickshaws, 60 cars, 15 vans, 23 buses, 29 trucks and 89 other types of vehicles and carts were involved in the traffic accidents.
