KARACHI:

Ahead of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation revealing its budget for the upcoming fiscal year, the Sindh government cautioned it and other relevant bodies to make sure they did not introduce any new development schemes.

In a letter addressed to those in charge of city and district municipal corporations, district councils, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Sindh Building Control Authority and other bodies, Sindh Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Department section officer Inayatullah Mangrio said these instructions were to be followed amid the ongoing coronavirus emergency, asking for strict compliance.

“The provincial budget has also not taken up any new scheme. Now the focus will be on the payment of salaries, pension and utilities on the non-development side and, on the development side, on the completion of ongoing schemes,” he explained.

Mangrio further wrote that approval would be required for funding for any emergency work requiring urgent action on the ground.
