Changes in PPSUA rejected
FAPUASA called on Punjab’s lawmakers to ensure the amendment is not passed
ISLAMABAD:
The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has rejected proposed amendments in the Punjab Public Sector Universities Act.
FAPUASA President Dr Sohail Yousuf and other office bearers termed the amendments as anti-education.
The officials said that the government, through the amended law, was attempting to hand over control of university syndicates to a retired judge or a public servant by taking it away from the vice-chancellor (VC) of that varsity.
Noting that no example of such a manner of administering universities was found in the world, the association members criticised the ]Punjab government’s unprecedented move.
They said that the proposed measures are akin to ending the sovereignty of varsities and their syndicates.
FAPUASA called on Punjab’s lawmakers to ensure the amendment is not passed.
