The body that manages admissions, the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP), announced on Thursday that as the Senior Secondary Certificate or Matric results were announced early this year, it is aiming to start the Intermediate admissions process from Monday.
“We are planning to start the admissions process early so that the first-year intermediate session for 2011 to 2012 can start by the first week of September,” said CAP chairman Nasir Ansar. “We want to give the students more time to complete their courses and overcome the educational divide that exists between public and private colleges.” This decision was reached at a meeting between the CAP committee and the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) chairman on Thursday.
The chairman added that a special regulation had been passed according to which it was no longer necessary for the candidates to present their marks sheet when applying to colleges. “Since the Karachi marks sheet was being released late, the students suffered and their admission process was delayed,” he said. “The results were announced early this year so that the students can receive their marks on time and apply to colleges accordingly.” Ansar added that this regulation might be totally useless as the other cities might receive their marks sheets first.
BSEK matters
The BSEK will now charge CAP Rs1.5 million to prepare the merit list and verify marks sheets from Karachi. “All our finances are generated through the admission forms, so in order to keep up with them we had to increase the form fees by Rs10,” the CAP chairman said. Forms will be available at 41 branches of the Allied Bank for Rs60.
