Civil Defence dept challans 449 factories

Fine worth Rs1 million also imposed this year on establishments for lack of fire safety measures

FAISALABAD: The Civil Defence Department has sent challans of 449 industrial establishments to a court for not taking fire safety measures so far this year.

A cumulative fine of Rs1,095,000 had also been imposed on the units by the department. This was stated by Civil Defence Officer Rana Muhammad Abbas in a meeting chaired by Assistant Director (AD) Chaudhry Asghar Ali, on the direction of Punjab Civil Defence Director Altaf Ahmed Baloch.

Officers from Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot, Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan also presented the performance of their districts in the meeting. The meeting also reviewed measures taken to control the spread of the coronavirus disease in Faisalabad region while other departmental issues were also discussed.

The AD urged the Civil Defence officers to further improve their performance and make fire safety arrangements to ensure workers were protected in industrial and commercial units. He directed to establish a Civil Defence organisation at tehsil level in the districts concerned and also directed to keep the financial affairs transparent in all respects and implement discipline and merit in official affairs.
