ISLAMABAD:
A meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday discussed a special package for medical staff fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, discussed 102 testing laboratories operating across the country and considered a short-term action plan in June and July to meet additional requirements.
It also discussed assistance for treatment at home, after 5,823 persons moved applications for remote medical consultation. Around 188 doctors were said to have offered medical advice to 1,374 persons thus far.
The meeting discussed action taken against markets, industries and vehicles violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government to contain the spread of the deadly disease.
The meeting was told that strict action was taken against 250 shops and 92 vehicles in Punjab for violating government orders. Similarly, 302 shops were sealed and 221 vehicles fined in Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P).
In addition, action was taken against 70 vehicles and 67 shops in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and 101 in Islamabad after 13 hotels, 24 shops, two industries and 39 vehicles were seized in the federal capital.
In a meeting held on June 8, the minister for planning said the federal government would provide 1,000 oxygenated beds to the provinces during the month of June to cope with the fast-emerging rush in large city hospitals due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Umar said the federal government would also provide required help to the provinces.
He said provinces were provided 250 ventilators and additional beds last week. A comprehensive incentive package would also be finalised soon for healthcare workers, he added.
Providing further details, a statement issued later in the day by the NCOC said that the Centre will ensure fast track approval for enhancing healthcare capacity, particularly the critical healthcare.
