Renowned stage actor Akhtar Shirani passes away

Working alongside Umer Sharif and Moin Akhtar, he was best known for his character in stage play 'Bakra Qiston Pe'

KARACHI: Renowned actor Akhtar Shirani, best known for his character in comedy stage play "Bakra Qiston Pe", passed away on Monday night after suffering from kidney-related complications.

According to his son Ali Raza, the actor had also been suffering from respiratory ailment for the past several days. He was placed on ventilator today due to severe difficulty in breathing, he added.

Raza said that his father's funeral prayers will be offered at Imambargah Rizvia Society while burial will take place at Wadi-e-Hussain cemetery on Tuesday.

Renowned singer Heer Sanghar passes away

Karachi Arts Council President Muhammad Ahmad Shah expressed deep grief over the sad demise, saying that Shirani was a good-natured man and sociable member of the council.

Shirani was popularly known as "Mirza ji" in the showbiz industry. He featured in numerous stage plays with greats including Umer Sharif and Moin Akhtar and was considered as one of the legendary actors of the country.
