ISLAMABAD: PML-N Punjab spokesperson Azma Bukhari on Saturday said the Sharif family continued to alarm the PTI government.

“If the Sharif family’s role in Pakistan’s politics is over, then why does a mere picture of Nawaz Sharif and the briefest political activity of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif cause tribulation in the government camp,” she said at news conference in Lahore in response to Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid’s allegations.

Earlier in the day, Rashid had claimed that Shehbaz wanted to reconcile with Prime Minister Imran Khan but the latter was not interested.

“Government spokespersons have only one thing on their minds and that is to hurl allegations against Sharif family on a daily basis,” she added.

“If the PTI and their allies think that the Sharif family no longer has a role in national politics then they should be happy. What’s keeping them on their toes all the time?”

Bukhari said Sheikh Rashid should keep his own past the stories of his residence Lal Haweli in mind before speaking about others.

“During the Musharraf era, Sheikh Rashid had predicted the end of the political careers of many leaders in a similar manner but that did not happen.”

The PML-N spokesperson also fired a broadside at Special Assistant to PM on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill for misbehaving with a journalist when asked about the harassment rumours against him on social media.

“How can he [Gill] be tolerated for such behavior on TV?”

She said the PML-N had details of Gill’s background and could respond by exposing him but did not want to stoop to his level.

Bukhari raised questions about Gill using a government car, staff and guards and living in Punjab House.

“The Supreme Court has stated that special assistants do not enjoy any government privileges.”

Speaking about an FIA-led inquiry commission’s report on the country’s sugar crisis, the PML-N spokesperson said the new facts that had surfaced squarely put the blame on the PTI government for the price hike of the sweetener.

“However, the PTI government instead of taking it as a charge-sheet against it is using it to give itself credit for transparency.”

She said the central character of scandal, Hashim Popalzai, who was removed from the post of the national food security and research secretary after the sugar crisis report, had been appointed a member of the procurement board

She said federal minister Khusro Bakhtiar, despite his relative’s role in the scandal, was removed from one ministry and given another.

Bukhari also asked why the accountability process had not been started against the people involved in the sugar scandal.

“Jahangir Tareen has flown to London along with his son,” she added,

She also accused PM Imran of submitting fake document of his Bani Gala residence.
