ISLAMABAD: The federal government formally accepted 'Royal Order of Sahametrei' award given to Pakistan's former ambassador to Phnom Penh Amjad Sher Ali for his outstanding services in Cambodia.

A government servant requires formal approval of the cabinet division before and after receiving an award.

Pakistan's envoy was awarded by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni at a ceremony held in Phnom Penh on December 11, 2019.

'Royal Order of Sahametrei' award is conferred primarily on foreigners who have rendered distinguished services to the King and to the people of Cambodia, particularly in the field of external relations and diplomatic services or, as a token of friendship.

Former ambassador Amjad, who served for almost seven years in Phnom Penh, played an important role in bringing Pakistan and Cambodia closer to each other.

The prestigious royal award is recognition by the government of Kingdom of Cambodia for Amjad Sher Ali services and diplomatic role played for his country.
