ISLAMABAD: The federal government has challenged the restoration of the Islamabad Mayor Anser Aziz on Saturday.

Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokar filed a review petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against its decision of suspending the mayor.

The federal government has pleaded the court to revoke the stay order against the mayor. AAG cited serious corruption charges on Aziz owing to which he was suspended for three months.

IHC closed after employee tests positive

The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Chief Metropolitan Officer had alleged Aziz of irregularities in awarding a contract for inter-city bus service. The Local Government Commission (LGC) had suspended the mayor on the basis of these charges.

However, the IHC had turned down the commission’s decision, citing that it had not followed proper legal course before suspending the official.

Just days after he had been suspended for three months through a government notification for alleged corruption and abuse of power, Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz was restored to his position on Thursday.
