ISLAMABAD:
As many as five tube-well operators and a driver of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) were suspended on Thursday for truancy from their duties.
Islamabad Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Naqvi ordered a halt to the payment of salaries for the suspended employees as well.
He issued these directions while visiting different areas of the city on Thursday and heard public complaints about water shortage. Locals complained about the poor behaviour of tube-well operators with them and that the tube-wells remain inoperative most of the time.
To confirm the complaints and to confront the tube-well operators, Naqvi paid a surprise visit to a tube-well and found that neither its operator nor the driver was present. He subsequently suspended the officials.
Later while talking to the workers, Naqvi said that people cannot be deprived of basic amenities such as water.
