ISLAMABAD: The federal government has withdrawn the facility for grade 21 and 22 bureaucrats who avail premature retirement to retain government residences until the age of 60 years and six months afterwards.

In this regard, regulation wing of the finance ministry issued office memorandum number R-4/2019 F.1(2) amending the memorandum issued on December 4, 1991.

The amended memorandum stated that those grade 21 and 22 officers who retire early after completing a minimum of 25 years of service would not be entitled to retain the government residences until the age of 60 years and six months thereafter.

Even the families of officers who die after retiring early will not be allowed to stay in the house.

The notification had been issued following the federal cabinet’s decision taken on April 21, 2020 in this regard.

When contacted, the finance ministry officials observed that previously those grade 21 and 22 officers who retired early after completing 25 years of service had the facility to retain government houses until the age of 60.

They further said that the family of an officer who expired after retiring early was allowed to keep the government residence until the deceased’s age was 60 years and six months thereafter.
