Talking to a delegation of Lahore Restaurants Association, led by its Chairman Mahmood Akbar, he said quality food is a fundamental right of the citizens and there can be no compromise on cleanliness and standard of the kitchens.
The association appealed for immediate resumption reopening of restaurants, like other businesses.
The senior minister assured the delegation of sympathetic consideration of their request while keeping in view the current situation. “We have a long way to go in terms of social distancing, while other conditions must also be met to avoid the dangers of coronavirus,” he said.
Proposing the formation of the advisory board to resolve the issues through mutual understanding, he said the quality of the food must be ensured as no one could be allowed to play with the lives of people for profit.
He also said that substandard milk and vegetables grown with hazardous water posed a danger to people’s health as poisonous food items caused diseases, which should be discouraged at all costs.
Leaders of the Lahore Restaurants Association assured the food minister of all possible cooperation in this difficult time. They said that their closed businesses were on the brink of collapse, while thousands of employees of the industry were also jobless.
They requested that like other businesses restaurants should be opened immediately, pledging to comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and government instructions in this regard.
They offered to operate the restaurants at half their capacity and seat customers at an appropriate distance while following all other rules to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
