Govt slashes Punjab Police development budget
Punjab Police also forwarded its recommendations for development schemes for the next fiscal year

The government’s financial losses owning to the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the police department as the proposal for the next financial year for Rs10 billion allocation in the budget to has been turned down by authorities.
Like other departments, Punjab Police also forwarded its recommendations including different development schemes for the next fiscal year three months ago.
In the draft forwarded to authorities concerned, Punjab Police’s top brass had proposed at least 330 new schemes and asked for allocation of at least Rs10 billion under the pretext of development budget.

The schemes mainly included construction of buildings for new police stations, CTD offices, officer’s offices and Punjab Constabulary.
However, after the instructions from higher government authorities, Punjab Police dropped the schemes except 20 new and 150 ongoing ones, costing up to Rs3 billion.
An official shared that as per the ongoing conditions of the province, allocation of Rs3 billion was also difficult during the pandemic situation.
