ISLAMABAD: A sizeable number of doctors who have been in service in federal government hospitals are awaiting promotions since years and the doctors expressed their dismay over the zero session of the meeting of departmental promotion committee.

According to senior doctors who spoke to The Express Tribune, doctors who had been appointed in federally administered hospitals in Islamabad and adjacent areas are waiting for their promotions since the last 12 years.

In PPP's government of 2008-13 the Khurshid Shah committee report suggested that those doctors who had become permanent on prime minister’s directive and those who have been on deputation in federal hospitals are still waiting for their  promotions.

Sources in the health department told The Express Tribune that at the end of last month the meeting of the DPC was to be held but the meeting didn't taken place which created disappointment amongst the doctors.

The Khurshid Shah Committee report showed that those doctors who have been on deputation in the federal administration hospitals are working in high profile positions but they lack promotions and described it as injustice.

The doctors are of the view that they have challenged the pandemic and risked their lives and demanded that they did not need applause but their rights.
