Entry to dam is banned to prevent spread of Covid-19

The Haripur deputy commissioner had already banned swimming in the dam for three months

KHANPUR: Khanpur police on Wednesday arrested dozens of youngsters for swimming in Khanpur Lake in violating of Section 144. Police said that dozens of people from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Haripur were swimming in Khanpur dam and its spillways.

The dam has been closed for visitors due to Covid-19 situation, they added. Police while taking action against the violators arrested many of them and fined them on directives of Khanpur Assistant Commissioner Adil Ayub.

Dozens of people drown every year during summer in Khanpur lake as youth from Islamabad , Pindi, Abbottabad and other areas swim in the lake without any precautionary measures.

The Haripur deputy commissioner had already banned swimming in the dam for three months.

The ban was imposed for protection of human lives and to prevent spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Khanpur police have been directed to strictly monitor the dam and do not allow anyone near the dam.
