SHO suspended, demoted over bribery allegations  

Police also claimed to have arrested suspects during a raid at a gutka factory

KARACHI:
West SSP Fida Hussain Janwani suspended and demoted Pak Colony SHO Amir Altaf on Sunday for allegedly accepting bribes from criminals.

According to SSP Janwari, SHO Altaf has been accused of collecting bribes from criminals in exchange for letting them operate freely. The allegations were being investigated by the Baldia Town SP.

Meanwhile, the police also claimed to have arrested suspects during a raid at a gutka factory, which had been functional for a long time as a result of paying bribes to the accused SHO.


According to sources, Altaf used to collect Rs200,000 per week in bribes from the factory owners.

A case has been registered against the suspects at the Pak Colony police station and further investigation is underway.

SSP Janwari said that strict action would be taken against Altaf if he was found guilty of the charges.
