LAHORE:
Punjab Minister for Human Resource and Minorities’ Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine has said that the Labour Day observed on May 1 every year offers an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices and invaluable contribution of labourers across the globe.

“These workers spend their days and nights in the development of their nations,” said the provincial minister in a statement issued on Thursday.

Augustine maintained that Pakistan's dynamic workforce has provided the momentum behind the progress and prosperity of the country.

He highlighted that the government's goal of rapid, inclusive, and sustainable growth was only being realised because of the hardworking, dedicated and committed workforce.

The minister remarked that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government had been taking all possible steps to safeguard the rights of labourers.

“No doubt, due to coronavirus every segment of the society, especially labourers, have been facing difficulties in earning their livelihood and they are not able to feed themselves and their families during the lockdown,” said Augustine.

The minister said the Punjab government has taken all measures for the welfare of workers.
