HYDERABAD:
Another female doctor has tested positive for coronavirus in Thatta district, whereas three of her family members have also contracted the virus.

Local health officials confirmed that the doctor, who works at the diagnostic laboratory of a private hospital in Karimabad, had tested positive for the virus along with her husband, daughter, and mother-in-law. Her father-in-law was the only member of the family to test negative.

The family, which lives in a village in Mirpur Sakro taluka, has been put under home isolation. They had returned to the village from Karachi last week

In the same district, where a bank manager and three of his family members tested positive for the contagious disease on Sunday as well, eight staff members of the private bank have been put under home quarantine. Health authorities collected their samples for testing on Monday.

Meanwhile, in Shikarpur district, an assistant commissioner (AC) has contracted the virus, after which the staff of his office has also been isolated. The AC, Jawad Ali Larik, has quarantined himself at his residence.

A total of 30 coronavirus cases have appeared so far in Shikarpur, including five doctors and two local government representatives.

Karachi city court clerk contracts virus

An employee of the Karachi city court tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday.


A clerk belonging to the administration branch of the West district was reportedly diagnosed with the contagious disease and has been isolated at his residence. His family will also be tested for the virus.

As many as 49 workers of the administration branch were screened for the virus, with only the clerk testing positive.

He is the second employee of the city court to contract the virus. Previously, a West district judge was also diagnosed with it, and is currently in quarantine.

Hearings delayed

Like all other activities in the country, coronavirus has also affected the functionality of the courts, with hundreds of cases being delayed due to the pandemic.

Major cases, such as those pertaining to hate speech, treason, murder and kidnapping are among the 1,760 cases that have been pushed due to the coronavirus crisis.

The hearings of these cases have been adjourned due to the absence of investigation officers, witnesses, and lawyers, while prisoners are also no longer permitted to be presented in court.

Furthermore, over 80 accused members of banned outfits have also applied for bail, citing the threat posed by the virus.
