A woman embraced martyrdom while an eight-year-old girl sustained injuries when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

The military’s media wing said that the Indian soldiers deliberately targeted the civilian population in Jandrot and Khuiratta sectors.

"Due to indiscriminate fire of automatics and rockets, a 36 years old woman, Yasmeen, resident of Red village embraced shahadat [martyrdom] while an 8 years old innocent girl, Adeeba Zaheer, resident of Mohra Chattar village sustained serious injuries," it added.

The injured child was immediately evacuated and provided medical treatment.

In another ceasefire violation earlier this month, Indian troops resorted to firing in the Sharda, Dhudnial and Shahkot sectors causing serious injuries to six civilians, including a 15-year-old girl

In a second incident, Indian troops targeted a village in the Nikial sector of the LoC.

The incidence of ceasefire violations along the LoC have seen an upsurge in recent months as tensions continue to soar between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Pakistan has cautioned the international community several times that India may stage some kind of ‘false flag’ operation to divert attention from the current unrest in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K).
