Punjab govt issues detailed breakdown of COVID-19 patients

As many as 1,380 confirmed coronavirus cases in Punjab have been classified into four catergories – Zaireen, Tableeghi Jamaat members, prisoners and common citizens – according to a statement issued by the provincial health department on Sunday.

Of them, 309 are pilgrims, who returned from Iran and was put into isolation in quarantined centres established in DG Khan, Multan and Faislabad.

The communique also said 443 patients belong to Tableeghi Jamaat who attended religious gathering in Raiwind last month, whereas 28 and 600 are prisoners and other citizens respectively.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson said that 10,263 suspected Tableeghi Jamaat members quarantined in various facilities have been established in 33 districts of the province.

COVID-19 case have been reported from 27 districts of the province who all are quarantined in isolation wards, the official said.

The health department spokesperson said detailed SOP has been issued to the home department for safety and protection of inmates in prisons.

"All coronavirus patients are being provided full medical care," the statement added.

The official also urged the people to strictly follow preventive measures against the highly contagious virus and those who have recently travelled abroad should observe self-isolation for 14 days and contact officials at #1033, if they show any COVID-19 symptoms.
