Health dept says 117 people to be sent home from DI Khan quarantine centre as toll rises

As many as 19 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients have fully recovered from the virus and will be allowed to return home soon, the provincial health department said on Wednesday.
Moreover, dozens of suspected Covid-19 patients could be sent home from quarantine centres
In its daily situation report, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Health Department said at least 19 patients of Covid-19 had fully recovered after receiving treatment at different quarantine centres.
It said during last 24 hours, as many as 23 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the province excluding Taftan-returned people. The report said three cases were reported in Abbottabad, two in Haripur, two in Mansehra, seven in Mardan, one each in Nowshera, Orakzai, Tank, South Waziristan, Bannu, Upper Dir, Khyber, Kohat and Kurram districts.

The statement added that at least 117 people, who had been brought to DI Khan from the quarantine centre in Taftan, will be sent home today (Thursday). Earlier, in a National Coordination Committee meeting, K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had disclosed that tests of 121 individuals at the quarantine centres in DI Khan had come back as negative. These individuals hail from Islamabad, Faisalabad, Gujrat and other parts of the country.
Moreover, the health department announced that people who had been quarantined in their homes in the Sufaid Dheri area of the provincial capital - where a Covid-19 patient had died, will be able to leave their homes as the area is expected to be de-sealed.
Two Covid-19 deaths reported
Amidst the recoveries, Nowshera Deputy Commissioner DC Shahid Ali Khan on Wednesday said an elderly patient, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in the district.
In a statement, Shahid said that the woman, who was around 80-years-old, had been admitted to the isolation ward in the district hospital after she had tested positive for Covid-19.
The deceased spent at least five days in isolation, the statement read.
Shahid further said that the deceased’s grandson has also developed symptoms of the virus and he has been admitted to the isolation ward, while his swab samples have been shared with the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad. The K-P Health Department daily situation report confirmed death of a coronavirus patient in Banuu. It also confirmed the death in Nowshera district.
Meanwhile, there were unconfirmed reports that a suspected Covid-19 patient had died in the Mayar village of Mardan. Locals claimed that the deceased had tested positive while four members of his family had also tested positive for the virus and have been sent to a quarantine centre. Local authorities said a lockdown was immediately imposed in the area.
Another suspected Covid-19 patient was reported to have died in Mansehra. Khawaja Muhammad had been admitted to the King Abdullah Hospital a couple of days ago and died on Wednesday.
Animal feed transportation
The provincial government on Wednesday conditionally allowed the transportation of animal feed in the province. Transporters were directed to maintain hygiene, regularly wash their hands and sanitise them before serving the feed to animals.
Dispelling widespread misconceptions about COVID-19
K-P Relief Department in a notification said that people associated with the animal feed business should wash their hands every hour for at least 20 seconds and also directed them to use masks, and gloves.
Relaxation in lockdown
After relaxation in the ongoing lockdown in the provincial capital, people thronged different markets in the city to buy essential food and other daily use items.
Peshawar district administration relaxed the lockdown for a few hours in the walled city, Lahore gate, Chowk-e-yadgar, Kohati gate, Hashtnagri, and the Shahdi Pir areas to facilitate residents of these areas.
