Corporate Governance: Roundtables planned to revise code

The roundtables are aimed at providing a platform for discussion between SECP and various stakeholders

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has announced that it is starting a series of roundtable meetings with the stakeholders concerned in order to finalise revisions in the Code of Corporate Governance. The first of these roundtables will take place in Karachi on July 29. The roundtables are aimed at providing a platform for discussion between SECP and various stakeholders, prior to implementation of the revised code. Earlier, SECP had assigned the task of reviewing the code to Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG), which constituted a 12-member task force, headed by Ebrahim Sidat, a noted chartered accountant. After detailed deliberations and three roundtables, the task force submitted its recommendations. After reviewing the recommendations, SECP said it made necessary amendments and launched a consultation process in October 2010 to reform the Code of Corporate Governance, 2002. O
