Sindh CM stresses monitoring ongoing projects to ensure timely completion

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali reviewed 289 schemes, worth Rs56.29 billion, launched in three districts of Karachi, during a meeting on Tuesday.

At the meeting, while discussing projects launched in Malir, East and Central Districts of the city, Shah maintained that the elected representatives and government functionaries had to monitor the quality of ongoing development works and their pace so that they could be completed on time.

The meeting was told that as many as 123 schemes, worth Rs19.1 billion, are in progress in Malir District. Of the funds appropriated for the projects, Rs5.54 billion- 29 per cent of the total funds- has been released and Rs2.25 billion has been utilised so far. In the district, 12 schemes are to be completed at a cost of Rs162.28 million, for which 70 per cent funds have been released. These schemes are likely to be completed by the end of the current financial year. Funds for nine other schemes in the district, adding up to Rs744.97 million, will be released in installments.

In East District, the Sindh government has launched 136 schemes worth Rs19.94 billion. Of this amount, Rs6.62 billion has been released and Rs2.97 billion or 45 per cent of the released amount has been spent. For eight of the schemes in the district, Rs155.64 million has been released and the projects are expected to be completed by the end of the current financial year. Meanwhile, 15 other schemes, worth Rs1.89 billion, funds for which will be released in installments, will also be completed by that time.

A total of 81 schemes, worth Rs17.22 billion, are in progress in Central District. Of the funds allocated for these schemes, Rs4.6 billion- 36 per cent of the amount allocated- has been released. As many as 20 schemes in the district will be completed by the end of June, 2020.
