Special Senate panel vows to resolve CDA, IMC issues

The committee, in its first meeting, vowed to resolve all issues next month

ISLAMABAD: A special Senate committee has been formed to sort out the issues between the civic authority of the federal capital and its elected, local government. The committee, in its first meeting, vowed to resolve all issues next month.

The Senate Special Committee to review and examine jurisdiction issues between Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) and suggest a course of action to address the issues held its first meeting on Friday, a statement from Senate secretariat said on Friday.

The internal meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and officials of the secretariat were present.

Constituted by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in pursuant to a discussion on the floor of the Upper House of parliament, the committee adopted a future work plan on Friday. Under the plan, the committee will invite all relevant stakeholders and government departments in subsequent meetings to thrash out a solution.

Senator Sayed observed that Senate is the House of Federation while the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), which is the centre of this federation, should be governed in a manner which not only reflects good governance but also excellent coordination between different departments.
