12 wedding guests killed in Jhal Magsi road crash

QUETTA: At least 12 people – including women and children – were killed and more than 23 others wounded when a vehicle carrying wedding guests lost control due to speeding and plunged into a ditch in Jhal Magsi district on Friday evening.

The crash occurred on Khuzdar-Jhal Magsi highway near the Bareja area.

Deputy Commissioner Sharjeel Noor, along with the Levies force personnel and rescuers, reached the site and initiated a rescue operation. The casualties were driven to a nearby hospital where medics referred some of them to hospitals in Larkana, Sindh, for treatment of their critical wounds.

Noor told The Express Tribune that the guests were travelling to Jhal Magsi from Lasbela to attend a wedding reception when the tragedy befell them.

Initial reports suggested that 10 people died in the accident. But later, two more injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital. The bodies were handed over to the heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Separately, two people lost their lives in a collision between two vehicles near the Sarsand area of Panjgur district.

In another incident, two people, including a woman, were killed while six others injured when a car they were travelling in toppled near the Sanjavi area of Khuzdar district.
