'Sole purpose of Helpline 1093 is to know people's grievances'

People can even complain about the problem of stray dogs in their area, says Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

KARACHI: Helpline 1093 will be made more effective so that people can file complaints against any local government institution without any problem, said Sindh Minister for Information, Local Government, Housing, Town Planning, Religious Affairs, Forest and Wildlife Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

During a visit to Helpline 1093 office on Wednesday, Shah claimed that the sole purpose of establishing the complaint line was to know people's grievances regarding the local government institutions and to address them immediately.

"If people have any complaint regarding the inefficiency of the Karachi Municipal Corporation, Solid Waste Management Board, district municipal corporations, union councils, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and even the problem of stray dogs in their areas, they can register it on the helpline," he said.

Moreover, while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the Billion Tree Tsunami programme, he said that work for the urban forest will be done quickly, adding that all available resources will be utilised in this regard.

The meeting reviewed the progress on projects related to roadside forestry, canal-side forestry and urban forestry. It was decided during the meeting that for the time being, all the funding would be diverted on the urban forest planned to be planted alongside the Lyari River.

"A green Sindh is among the top priorities of the provincial government and in this regard a comprehensive policy would be formulated soon," he said. He further stated that the first urban forest would be built in Karachi, which would be expanded to other parts of the province gradually.
