Wax waste in candle factory caught fire, says fire dept official

KARACHI: A candle factory and a warehouse caught fire in separate incidents in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A candle factory in Lashari Muhalla, Ibrahim Hyderi, caught fire on Wednesday. As a result, goods worth around Rs200,000 kept inside the factory were gutted. Two fire tenders arrived on the spot soon after being informed about the blaze. Moreover, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board also provided four water tankers to assist them during the firefighting operation.

The fire was extinguished after an effort of two-and-a-half hours. A portion of the factory's boundary wall collapsed due to the incident, while no casualties were reported. According to Muhammad Naseem, the assistant fire officer at Korangi fire station, the wax waste had caught fire. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

Separately, a warehouse near Habib Bank Chowrangi caught fire on Tuesday night. Three fire tenders and a bowser arrived on the spot after receiving the complaint about the incident. Fire department officials said that they had received the information about the fire at around 9:45 pm and sent rescue teams immediately.

They stated that there were foam, chemicals and wooden goods stored inside the warehouse, which fuelled the flames further. However, the blaze was quickly extinguished, whereas the cooling process reportedly continued late into the night. The cause of the fire and the losses from it have not yet been determined.
