Govt to increase production of Kinnow

Sargodha has been producing over 2 million tonnes annually

Provincial Minister for Human Resources and Development Ansar Majeed Niazi said on Monday that PTI led government was determined to increase the production of Kinnow and steps have been taken to celebrate National Citrus Day.

Addressing an opening ceremony of Kinnow Mela at Tehsil Kot Momin, the provincial minister said that Sargodha was producing 90% Kinnow of the total production of Pakistan. He added that it has been producing over 2 million tonnes annually.

It was being exported to Russia and the Middle East from Sargodha. The minister said that for increasing the production the government was taking practical steps to set up citrus research centres so that agricultural experts from all over the world visit here to do research on citrus.


Majeed maintained that PTI led government was resolute to provide maximum facilities for the welfare of Citrus cultivators of the area.

He highlighted that ministers of Food and Agriculture would soon visit the citrus producing areas.

DC Abdullah Nayyer Sheikh said that the citrus festival was a testament to cultivators' abilities and it was the need of the time to introduce them in the world.
