Twitter has introduced emoji reactions for direct messages, it announced in a tweet.

The new feature includes seven reactions similar to the ones available in Facebook Messenger and Apple’s iMessage. The emoji reactions are ready to use in direct messages on the Twitter web, iOS, and Android apps.

To add a reaction, hover over the message and click the reaction button (heart and plus icon), or double tap on the message and pick an emoji from the pop-up.

You can undo a reaction at any time and it will be removed from the message for all participants. By clicking on it a new pop-up window will load at the bottom which will allow you to ‘undo’ the reaction.

Click or tap on a reaction in a conversation to view who reacted to the message. Additionally, all conversation participants will receive a notification any time a new reaction is added to a message.

Older versions of the Twitter for iOS or Android app will see reactions displayed as text-based messages, says Twitter.
