KARACHI:
They first ordered the famous Harri Mirch with naan and then they proceeded to clean out the television team shooting a drama serial episode upstairs in the restaurant.
The two armed men who pulled off the brazen robbery walked in to the restaurant in Defence’s Khadda Market at 11:31pm. They sat down, ordered their meal, ate it and then paid Rs330 for the bill, which also included a bottle of mineral water. All this time, upstairs, a team from a private television drama serial ‘Kitni Girhain Baqi Hain’ was shooting an episode.
Restaurant staff said that they initially mistook the duo as members of the television crew. Ironically enough, the drama team thought the robbers were restaurant staff. It did not help that the entire restaurant staff were riveted to the shooting, including the security guard Sardar. They were so engaged, that when the shooting ran past closing time at 12:30pm, the supervisor agreed to a request to go on for 45 more minutes.
“They seemed like they were from good families,” said floor supervisor Faisal. “As if they were from Defence or worst come to worst, Gizri.” The staff was fooled by their clean-shaved looks. One young man was in a shalwar kameez and the other in trousers and a shirt with a cap.
After dinner, one of the boys went to the washroom for about 20 minutes, according to manager Irfan, who said that they did not seem to be professional robbers as they had a nervous look about them. They then went upstairs, pulled out their guns and told everyone to get to one side. “When they took out the guns we had no idea what was going on,” said Irfan. “It seemed like the director had taken a U-turn but in the end, it turned out that we were all given a ‘u-turn’.”
Actor Arjumand Rahim said her team also thought that the men were part of the restaurant’s management. She, another actor Erum Shahid, their director Angeline Malik, four of their crew members and one director Shamoon Abbasi who was visiting were robbed of their cell phones, jewellry, cash and valuables. They even took the expensive recording equipment. “It seemed like they were police wallahs,” she said.
Luckily, the entire scene was recorded in the CCTV cameras. Two separate cases, one by the restaurant management and the second by the drama team were registered at the Gizri police station. No one could tell the police, however, if the duo left by motorcycle, car or by foot. They did say that the men did not leave a tip.

awww, too bad that they didnt leave a tip :( ...
“They seemed like they were from good families,” said floor supervisor Faisal. “As if they were from Defence or worst come to worst, Gizri.” Because anyone living beyond that point would be from a bad family?
luk dears we have to think over it that who s doing wrong ,why is he doing wrong and how can we stop him ...the situation gonna be worse id we do think like ceiminals...a person is never a criminal from birth circumstanses brings him that postion . its not easy to make a crime free state but still there s need of improvment and how that is possible so easy we must bring our self close to islam and religon shuld be given most values and should make our self right so simply everythings gonna be right it self .more than peace love and respect is important
@ibad: @Shahzad S. Janjua:
lol...and when rangers killed a person snatching phones at benazir park....people like you were criticizing....:P
If it's sunnah to keep a weapon.. is it also a sunnah to impulsively kill somebody for a "Robbery". Or for another offense without a trial? People do not just want to take the law in their hands, they want to label it religiously legit too!
Thanks for the timely reporting of yet another incident of such lawlessness . For some time I was debating with myself to make or not to make a trip to Karachi. With such a mess, I would rather hold back and may instead visit some other part of e world with whatever little time and money that I can spend.
That is a sham of a way to report and write the story, Faraz Khan. The way you have written the headline, it is indeed attention grabbing, but there is a thing called being in "poor taste" . Way to use yellow Journalism.
The Director have got fair chance to shoot real Drama!
@rayban: strongly agree! publish it. Let the citizen know who is the robber among them
they looked from good families, that means either the good families dont dress well or the bad families have started dressing well...
I loved the last line of this "news story": They did say that the men did not leave a tip. Icing on the cake would have been if ET published their pics caught on CCTV. Then would have been really famous!
pls if possible, publish the photographs of the robbers (caught on CCTV)
An interesting story.
Instead of pointing fingers at the political parties that are a now fixed landmark of our political system we must try to mitigate the situation by addressing such crime at its very grassroot level. Rampant poverty and double digit inflation is eroding the economic fabric of Pakistan- this in effect breads such destructive ideology.
I completely disagree with Shahzad. I don't think that you need to 'live in a jungle like a junglee.' What will differentiate you from the robbers that came to the restaurant then? You fall right into the gross stereotype that we as a nation are well known for: interpretign the sunnah/religion to satisfy your own ideas. The misuse of religion is the abuse of religion.
Lets use this forum contructively, perhaps to come with suggestions that can help combat the current deteriorating situation? Lets not adhere to the extremism being propagated.
This is crazy! This makes me believe how wild it is out there and no wonder we've all become so paranoid about what we all come across and have to deal with on daily basis. Insane!
Very simple: have a three strike and out rule.On third offence in the area transfer the SHO of the stations.Let the cops do the job they are paid to do. No more police escorting the non tax paying advisers and ministers
shehzad hats off! very well said ... i think the same ... its time we take the law in our hands!
Just WOW !!!
you folks at tribune really knows how to tell a story :p
This Sunday, we are robed at gun point near Teen Talwar, a person pointed a gun at my mother alongwith my sister, I wish I had a gun and shot him at the moment.
It's time that in this jungle city we live like junglee, else there is no stopping to stop these criminals for financing their criminal activities through our own money.
There is no law or wright of the state against these terrorist organisations in the name of MQM, ANP and PPP and other drug mafia and alike.
It's a sunnah to keep a weapon and I guess it's time as well.
