Snowfall, heavy rain bring misery to people

Residents of different districts complain about low-gas pressure, power outages

Incessant rain and snowfall in different parts of Balochistan have not only made the weather chilly but also added to the people’s woes.

According to details, heavy rain was witnessed in Quetta, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Ziarat, Loralai, Qalat, Sibi, Kharan, Dalbandin, Zhob, Osta Mohammed, Naseerabad, Surab and Jhal Magsi.

The residents of these areas complained about low or absent gas pressure and said that they were left with no option but to buy the LPG at exorbitant rates.

They demanded of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to ensure the provision of an uninterrupted supply of gas to their areas so that they could at least cook their meals at ease.

In order to meet domestic and business needs, people are also using coal and timber rings.

Residents of different districts also complained about a power outage and said that due to extreme dark in the evening and at night, they were unable to perform their household chores.


On the other hand, heavy snowfall in Pishin, Qila Saifullah and Ziarat made the travel for commuters to adjoining areas difficult and they were left with no option but to travel on foot.

Traffic at the Pak-Afghan border near Zhob also remained suspended due to heavy snowfall.

According to the meteorological department, 55 millimetres of rain was recorded in Qalat, 52mm in Quetta, 41mm in Dalbandin, 26mm in Sibi, 17mm in Nukundi, 11mm in Zhob and Barkhan, 6mm in Ormara, while 3mm of rain was recorded in Panjgur.

The met office has forecast more rain and snowfall in Quetta, Ziarat and other areas of northern and central Balochistan in the next 24 hours.

Provincial Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove has directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to remain on high alert and cope with rain and snowfall related incidents on an emergency basis.

The agricultural experts have welcomed the recent rains and said that the downpour will not only yield a better crop in the province but also raise the level of groundwater.
